Yoshinkan Aikido, or the house of cultivating the spirit, has a reputation as a strong style concerned with the practicality of its techniques and the development of an individual's focus and spirit.

Gozo Shioda Sensei formed the Yoshinkan style of Aikido by creating a structured method within which beginning students could learn the foundation techniques. He felt there needed to be a greater consistency in the training process for students of Aikido.
