Shoshinkan

Shoshinkan was founded in May 2005 by Andy Hobday sensei to provide an open and positive environment for people to enjoy practicing the Yoshinkan style of Aikido. Since that time it has grown into a popular and established dojo with excellent reputation in Nottingham and Derby.

We run a traditional martial art with the focus on etiquette and martial spirit. We are also proud of our motto of Shoshin : the beginners mind. When beginners start, their mind is pure, open, eager, excited and with no ego. We try to encourage all students to keep this mind at heart at all times, to create an environment that is accessible to all ages and gender.

Being a member of the Aikido Shudokan group of dojo under the guidance of Joe Thambu shihan ensures the quality and authenticity of the instruction given at the Shoshinkan is always high.

Since 2011 the club has been run by Narita Tadashi sensei, who has been a full time Aikido student for 5 years. He has spent many months in Australia training as a dojosei under Joe Thambu shihan, and he is looking to continue the same motto and spirit to spread the art of Aikido to more and more people.
