Period: 4 week course every Tues 7:00 – 8:00pm, starting 5/6/2012 ending 26/06/2012.

Brief: This beginners course is an introduction which covers the basics of Aikido, and acts as a stepping stone into the normal classes. The course is limited to 20 places and it will be held in our Nottingham dojo in Sneinton

The class will be taken at a very gentle pace, and therefore suitable for all ages. It is designed that by the end of the course everyone would be able to join the regular classes.

This is ideal for anyone who is interested in Aikido, or any martial arts who would like to experience what it is all about without making a big commitment.

We are very pleased to announce that Joe Thambu shihan (Our technical director) is coming to Europe again. He is coming over on the following dates at the following locations below. This is a fantasic opportunity to train with one of the best Yoshinkan aikido instructors in the world, and he is also our technical director of Aikido, so you will be getting the instructions from the true aikidoka.

There are 4 dates now set for Czech, Poland and Germany. All classes are open class to all Yoshinkan Aikidoka. And self defence class is open to all general public and all martial artists alike. Joe Thambu shihan is world renowned for his self defence application of Aikido. So you can get the first hand experience and training of the self defence skills and restraint and removal skills.

Just in case everyone is worried about the Easter holiday schedule… here is the timetable during Easter Break!

The only exception I have from above is the advance class on Friday Morning on the 6th April. The class is on from 6:30am – 8:00am.

We may have the answer for you….

We have started beginners classes for people with no aikido or martial arts experience. The class is taken slowly by an instructor at the speed YOU feel most comfortable. We will take classes in small groups to create a safe and relaxing environment.

The class is suitable for all ages and sex. The class is constructed so that people can learn all the basic skills you need to move on to the regular class. This class is run on permanent basis so you don’t have to worry about missing a class or two. You can come back to the next class, and take it from where you left off!

Aikido is an effective martial art where practiced well you can overcome strength and sizes. In Japan it has been practiced by Tokyo Riot police as a compulsory training programme for over 40 years and proven to be very effective. The effectiveness is proven by the fact lots of female students are taking up on this for self defence purposes, as well as building your general fitness and confidence.

Just to make it even easier, we are currently offering a Free Trial Session for anyone who is interested in joining. So come and join us!!

Yoshinkan London are honoured to be hosting Takafumi Takeno Shihan 9th Dan and his Chief Instructor Chiemi Nakagawa Sensei 5th Dan in April/May 2012.

Takeno Shihan is currently Saiko Shihan (Senior Master, Technical Director) of the Hombu Dojo in Tokyo and Founder of the Yamanashi Yoshinkan Aikido in Kofu, Japan. He was the main uchi deshi for the founder of Yoshinkan Shioda Gozo and Chief Instructor at the Hombu Dojo for many years.

Anyone who has seen a Takeno Sensei demonstration has an idea of the power and speed of his Aikido. If you get a chance to receive his techniques, you will be amazed by the softness of the contact, your balance being stolen immediately and then how devastatingly fast you are accelerated into the mats.

Weekend Seminar 28 – 29 April 2012

A weekend seminar at the K2 Centre in Crawley (close to Gatwick Airport and the M25). The venue is a modern Leisure Centre with plenty of new mats and plenty of space. There will be a demonstration on the Saturday with a party after training. Good value accommodation is available at 2 nearby Premier Inn hotels.

Three day intensive course 30 April – 2 May 2012

For those Aikidoka that have attained at least 4th kyu and can commit the time and the energy, we have organised 3 days of more personal intense training. This will consist of morning, afternoon and evening classes. It will be held at The Yoshinkan London Dojo in Camden. The numbers for this event are limited and therefore preference will be given to those who book the full 5 days training schedule. Good value accommodation is also available with Hampstead Premier Inn.

We understand that in the run-up to Christmas cash is scarce so please secure your place with an early deposit of £50. The full amount must be paid by 1st March 2012 to guarantee your place. We are putting on an Aikido self defence course in February. This is suitable for all beginners, ages and gender. Aikido is based on the concept of using the opponents force to your advantage. So size and gender becomes no issue, small can overcome the big, and women can overcome the men!

The class can cover your particular situation you have had to deal with in the past or even at work. We have had teachers, nurses and doctors and security personnel join this course before and found it very useful to deal with your everyday work situation as well as self protection.

This is ideal for anyone who is interested in Aikido, or any martial arts who would like to experience what it is all about without making a big commitment.

We are moving to the new premises in the new year. We have been extremely lucky to use Games Workshop dojo before. But in the 2012, we are moving to the new and better location, closer to city centre in Sneinton.However, the juniors class is relocated to a new place just around the corner from the Games Workshop at Dunkirk Community Centre.

For Adults classes We have been very lucky to use the Zanshin dojo in Sneinton, run by Sensei Simon Oliver. We will be sharing the floor space with sensei Oliver on all adults classes. We will be able to put more mats on the dojo than before. And it has a great atmosphere in the dojo, as the Zanshin dojo has been there since 1976 with a long history.

For Juniors the we are offering more classes and time and location will not change much. The Saturday class in Nottingham has moved only few yards away from old dojo at Dunkirk Community Centre. It is almost no change for most of the juniors. There is also one extra class in Gedling on Mondays in Gedling School where we did our Xmas Seminar in 2011.
